Joao Felix has responded to rumours that Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing Joao Felix and that Atletico Madrid boss Simeone is willing to let him depart this summer.
After discussing his future and denying any interest from Manchester United, Joao Felix has ruled out leaving Atletico Madrid this summer.
The Portuguese superstar moved from Benfica to the Spanish city in the summer of 2019 for an astounding £113 million, but he hasn’t lived up to the promise in the three years following.
Although he has had flashes of brilliance, the 22-year-most old’s recent season with Atletico Madrid was overshadowed by injury.
There has been chatter that the forward might leave for greener pastures this summer.
The Atletico star has now spoken out about rumors surrounding his future amidst connections to United and claims the La Liga team had offered Felix to numerous European sides. Felix asserts that he has no plans to travel this summer.
According to Marca, the Portuguese international said that leaving Atlético is not an option during a meeting in his home land. I’m good, and my attention is on Atlético.
I am at peace with the future, conscious of my options, and content with who I am. Even though I’ve just begun my preseason training and am still on vacation, I’m not giving football any thought.”
The 2021–22 season saw Felix post his greatest stats with Atletico to date, despite periods of injury-related absence. In 24 La Liga games, the attacker scored eight goals and added four assists.
The striker, who became well-known at the age of 19 after scoring 15 league goals in 26 games for Benfica in his debut season as a senior player, has yet to score in double digits in any of his three seasons with Atletico thus far.
Felix will be expected to shoulder more of the goal-scoring load next season with Diego Simeone’s team expecting to lose Luis Suarez on a free transfer this summer.
The attacking striker’s potential sale has been discussed more and more in recent weeks. United are reportedly competing with a number of Premier League teams to recruit the attacker,
who is regarded as a “strong option” by incoming Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag, according to Correio da Manha. In preparation for prospective bids, Chelsea and Tottenham are reportedly keeping an eye on the player’s status.
Spurs in particular are rumored to be considering taking advantage of Felix’s availability and Atletico’s alleged interest in one of their own exiles. Giovani Lo Celso, a midfielder for Tottenham, is reportedly a favorite of Simeone, earlier this month.
The 26-year-old Argentine had a standout season while playing on loan at Villarreal last year, and the Atletico manager is reported to have renewed his interest in the player as a result of his performances.
Simeone is thought to have been interested in Lo Celso ever since he played for Real Betis, and he even made an effort to recruit the midfielder in 2019 before Tottenham reached a £45 million deal.
With regard to United, Ten Hag is rumored to be looking for a new attacker this summer. The threat Felix poses was made clear to the Red Devils when he scored a spectacular header against United in the first leg of the pair’s Round of 16 Champions League matchup last season. Atletico won the match.
