Sadio Mane left Liverpool and moved to Bayern Munich earlier this summer. He hasn’t spent any time in winning over his new fans.
Less than five minutes into his debut with the German powerhouse Bayern Munich, Sadio Mane scored, giving his career the perfect start.
After making it obvious to Liverpool management that he had no intention of extending his contract at Anfield, the Senegal international moved to the Allianz Arena.
Mane would have been entering the last year of his contract on Merseyside, with the possibility that he might move for free.
That scenario never materialized thanks to the Kop management’s agreement on a price that would net them a base sum of £27.1 million plus additional payments totaling more than £35 million.
And only a few weeks after Mane signed the contract, Robert Lewandowski finally fulfilled his dream of joining Barcelona, solidifying Mane’s position as Bayern’s top player.
Mane was expected to play on either wing, as he had done to great success during his six years at Liverpool.
However, Mane was used as a center striker in his Bayern debut, when they faced Wayne Rooney’s DC United in the nation’s capital, with Lewandowski out of the picture.
Bayern was given a penalty only four minutes into the game, and the 30-year-old soon asserted himself, scooping up the ball and converting the ensuing spot-kick into the top corner.
The instant effect of his summer acquisition would have thrilled Julian Nagelsmann, who lauded his versatile play and unselfish playing style.
Nagelsmann remarked at Mane’s introduction that he was “extremely [excited about Mane’s coming]; straight from the first chat, he created a really selfless impression, which is remarkable for a player with such a famous reputation.
He said rather humbly that he could picture himself in any circumstance. It’s unusual to witness a player fully commit to the group and the coach at the initial discussion. This gave us more incentive to finish the signature.
Mane, on the other hand, was sure that the proper challenge had arrived at the ideal time in his professional life:
“Like I always say, my life is always about a challenge and when it came, I said to the club that I want to go, I want to go someplace else to see a new challenge.
“It is just a challenge for me since I want to always push myself to get better,” the speaker said.”
In what may end up being a club record transaction, Liverpool brought in Darwin Nunez from Benfica as soon as possible to replace the former Southampton star.
Nunez has struggled in his early performances, though, unlike the player he has replaced, forcing Jurgen Klopp to defend the Uruguayan attacker.
Regarding the criticism of his new forward, Klopp replied, “I’m not bothered at all. “We have no stake in the overall decision about Nunez.
We are all aware of how it will turn out. Picking out instances where a player isn’t doing well is something some individuals do as a game or joke. That’s just a game amongst [fans of other clubs], which is common.
